The ScoreSpringer wants Blue Jays to re-sign Ray, Semien

George Springer wants to keep the band together. The Blue Jays outfielder was clear on his thoughts regarding free agents Marcus Semien and Robbie Ray after Toronto got eliminated from playoff contention on the last day of the regular season."It's pretty simple. I want them back ... they're huge, integral parts of this team and I hope they're still here (in 2022)," Springer said, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.Semien, who set an MLB single-season record for homers (45) by a second baseman, had nothing but positive things to say about his campaign with the Blue Jays."We had the best offense in the major leagues and in my mind, the best starting pitching in the game. How could you not want to be a part of that?" Semien said postgame."Obviously, when you have those things set in stone, there are little pieces to add to get to the next level. I'm one of them. I think our bullpen is another one. We also have young guys getting better, so let's see what happens. But I had a great time here. I love the facility and everything that they offered for me to do what I need to do to get ready for a game. And that's all I can ask for sure."Meanwhile, Ray, who's one of the favorites to win AL Cy Young, wasn't as open as Semien on how he feels about a return to the club."It's definitely an option. I'm sure we'll be in touch," the left-hander said, according to Nicholson-Smith.Blue Jays president and CEO Mark Shapiro shared his thoughts Monday about how the season ended and what's next for the team. Will always be bitter & determined unless we win last game played but could not be prouder of our team on & off field. So much to build from this year. This group exemplifies perseverance, toughness & commitment to be best teammate possible. Today is next year. Time to get better Mark Shapiro (@MarkShapiro) October 4, 2021 Toronto finished with a 91-71 record, good for fourth in the AL East and one-game back of a wild-card spot.
