The 33-year-old hurler did manage to punch out four opposing hitters in the contest while allowing only one base on balls. While there were plenty of baserunners against him, all of the damage came via the long ball with Casey Schmitt socking a solo dinger in the second inning and LaMonte Wade Jr. adding a solo shot in the fourth. Taillon has had a mediocre spring through his first two starts, registering a 4.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 6/1 K/BB ratio over six innings.
Schmitt got the Giants on the board in the second inning as he walloped a two-out solo shot off of Jameson Taillon to even the score at 1-1. He also singled off of Caleb Thielbar in the sixth inning. With the two-hit attack, the 26-year-old infielder is hitting .286 (8-for-28) with three long balls and six RBI on the spring.
Facing most of Arizona's big-league regulars, Taillon notched a pair of strikeouts with a second-inning solo homer by Geraldo Perdomo representing the lone tally against him. The 33-year-old veteran right-hander's lack of strikeout upside limits his fantasy appeal, but he's been a decent back-end rotation option in deeper mixed leagues.
Perdomo's second-inning blast off Cubs starter Jameson Taillon was his first big fly of the spring. The 25-year-old switch-hitter, who agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract extension last week, doesn't offer much of a fantasy impact given how loaded the shortstop position group is at the moment. Yet, he should make an impact in NL-only formats as a potential double-digit home run and 20-plus stolen base source.
