Wallner's double was one of just three hits the Twins were able to muster on the night vs. the Phillies and starter Zack Wheeler. Wallner is hitting just .216 on the season but has been hot over the last month. He's slashing .345/.424/.655 in July but doesn't offer much fantasy upside at the bottom of Minnesota's lineup.
Wheeler and opposing starter Simeon Woods Richardson pitched a combined 13 scoreless frames on the night. Wheeler allowed a double to Twins left fielder Matt Wallner in the fifth inning, but otherwise kept the Twins out of scoring position while striking out seven. Wheeler has struck out seven batters in each of his last three starts while allowing three earned runs over 18 innings pitched in that span. He'll look to pick up his 11th win of the season when he makes the start on Monday against the Yankees.
Woods Richardson went toe-to-toe with Phillies starter Zack Wheeler all night. The righty allowed just four baserunners on the evening and didn't allow a run to a potent Phillies lineup. The Phillies scattered three singles across the six frames Woods Richardson pitched as they were held in check all night in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel. Woods Richardson has allowed two runs or less in each of his last three starts and lowered his ERA on the season to 3.27 in this one. His efforts weren't enough to earn him the win, but he'll look to repeat this solid outing on Monday when he's slated to start against the Tigers.
Wheeler (back) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Twins at Target Field.
Ranger Suarez and Zack Wheeler will be back early next week while J.T. Realmuto returned to the Phillies' lineup Saturday, with Rob Thomson explaining why Rafael Marchan was the odd man out.
