The 24-year-old outfielder has been running the bases in recent days and will do so again on Saturday. If all goes well there, he could be cleared to head out on what should be a short minor league rehab assignment. With Riley Greene (hamstring) shelved, the Tigers could certainly use a quick return from Meadows.
Meadows (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Meadows landed on the injured list back in early July with a right hamstring strain, so it's an extremely positive update that he's ready to resume running the bases again. The 24-year-old center fielder should be ready for a brief minor league rehab assignment in the near future and return to Detroit's lineup at some point in early August.
Meadows (hamstring) will run the bases Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
With Meadows out, the Tigers will go right back to the same outfield mix they were using a few days ago before calling him up. That should mean more time for Justyn-Henry Malloy, though he's sitting behind the newly recalled Akil Baddoo today. Matt Vierling also figures to see more of his starts come in the outfield.
