The Cleveland Indians needed 10 innings to get by the Chicago Cubs. An Eddie Rosario RBI single in the 10th inning gave the Indians the 2-1 win.
It turns out that, sometimes, Angel Hernandez is correct. That's what Kansas City Royals manager Mike Matheny is willing to concede after being ejected during Wednesday night's contest against the Cleveland Indians while arguing a balk call from the veteran umpire that knocked Brady Singer from the game."You know, I don't have any issue with Angel," Matheny said Thursday morning, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. "Matter of fact, I was just flat wrong yesterday. He had it right. He saw a balk I didn't see ... But he was right. I was wrong. And I'll let him know that, too."Singer was called on a balk while pitching in the sixth inning, awarding both Eddie Rosario and Franmil Reyes one base each. While Matheny and pitching coach Cal Eldred argued vehemently at the time and were both tossed, it does appear as though Singer's drive leg twitches prior to the pickoff attempt. I may only be saying this because it benefits us, but Angel Hernandez was absolutely right. Singer twitched. Watch his right leg. That s a balk. pic.twitter.com/SYsEpb8cJ6 Monte the Color Man (@Monte_Colorman) May 6, 2021 Singer was also later ejected, arguing with Hernandez while he was walking off the field during a pitching change.Matheny walking back his criticism of Hernandez comes during a rough series for the veteran umpire. On Tuesday, Hernandez admitted he "basically guessed" when making a call on a fly ball which proved to be incorrect. After the game, Indians manager Terry Francona admitted he asked Hernandez "Why's it always happening when you're here?" during the incident.Copyright © 2021 Score Media Ventures Inc.
