The 29-year-old hurler struck out one batter on the afternoon and didn't issue a free pass. He was ambushed out of the gate, as Jonathan India crushed a leadoff homer to start the home half of the first inning. Jac Caglianone then crushed a long solo homer to lead off the third inning. The two long balls were the only baserunners that Civale allowed. He got three swings and misses on 48 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 29 percent. While he doesn't get by on velocity, it's worth noting that Civale's fastball averaged just 89.8 mph during this one and he was down nearly two ticks across the board from where he sat during the 2024 season.
Witt homered in the first and walked in the third, at which point he was removed for a pinch-runner on the wet field. The Royals were also extra protective of Jonathan India, who was likewise lifted in the third. Witt improved to 7-for-21 with two homers this spring.
