Walls denied that the fist pump was an endorsement of the former president
Rays shortstop Taylor Walls said Tuesday that his Donald Trump-inspired celebration of a hit Sunday was not intended as an endorsement of the Republican presidential candidate.
With Yandy Diaz out, Isaac Paredes moved to first base, which allowed Caballero to start at third base, and he delivered. The speedster now has seven home runs and 26 RBI on the season. He has moved into more of a super-utility role since Taylor Walls returned, which caps his fantasy upside, but Caballero can remain relevant if he continues to start the majority of games in Tampa Bay.
Lowe has quietly managed an .830 OPS in 50 games this season. He's started just four times versus lefties, but he's actually hit them very well in limited action (11-for-30 with two homers). The Rays could consider going back to using him as a full-timer, but that might mean sitting the indispensable Taylor Walls.
Lowe has sat against the last two left-handed pitchers, but he's in the lineup today with Taylor Walls on the bench, Jose Caballero at shortstop, and Amed Rosario at second base. Since June 15th, Lowe is hitting .278 in 17 games with five home runs, 12 runs scored, and seven RBI. He is striking out 28 percent of the time, but that production has earned him more opportunities in the short-term.
