He'll throw Saturday's bullpen and then one more a couple of days later before the Yankees determine the next step in his recovery. Hopefully then he'll be cleared to face live hitters, with a minor league rehab assignment on tap shortly thereafter. Barring any setbacks, Schmidt could be ready to rejoin the Yankees' rotation in mid-to-late August.
Schmidt is roughly eight weeks removed from suffering a lat strain that sent him to the injured list back in late May and is going to need at least a couple additional weeks of rehab outings before returning to New York's starting rotation mix. The positive news here is that he's close to facing hitters again and should make it back at some point in mid-to-late August.

Schmidt is set to throw about 20 pitches as he makes his way back from a lat strain. He's still not close to returning to a major league mound, but Schmidt says he expects to be fully built up by the end of the season. He was 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 11 starts for New York this season.
