The triple was the only hit the Guardians picked up off Dylan Cease and the San Diego bullpen. It's the first triple of the season for the 25-year-old, but he has the speed to possibly pick up a few more before the season ends. It won't matter because a .218/.313/.351 slash essentially unplayable in fantasy leagues.
Phenomenal. Cease needed only 97 pitches to get through the seven scoreless, and the only hit allowed was a triple to Tyler Freeman. THis makes 21 strikeouts for the 28-year-old over his last two starts while not allowing any runs in those 13 innings. There have been a few blips, but for the most part Cease has looked the part in his first season with the Padres. His chance to continue the domination likely comes Thursday versus the Nationals.
Alex Faedo started the ninth inning with a two-run advantage, but he allowed run and had the tying run at third base with only one out when manager A.J. Hinch turned to Foley. The 28-year-old right-hander got Tyler Freeman to bounce to first baseman Gio Urshela who cut down the potential tying run at the plate. After an intentional walk and a wild pitch put two runners back in scoring position, Foley got Austin Hedges to ground out to short to end it. Foley now sports a 3.41 ERA to go with 15 saves in 17 chances on the season.
Freeman is back in center field and batting seventh following a three-game absence due to lingering right wrist discomfort.
