A reported April trade between the New York Mets and San Diego Padres fell through after Mets doctors raised concerns about right-hander Chris Paddack's medicals, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The trade would have seen San Diego send Paddack, first baseman Eric Hosmer, and reliever Emilio Pagan to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Dominic Smith. But Mets personnel decided the trade would not make sense for the team if Paddack had to miss more than a year of action, Heyman reports. The Mets' concerns proved valid as Paddack, 26, underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this week for the second time in his career.San Diego pivoted after the reported trade fell apart, sending Paddack and Pagan to the Minnesota Twins for closer Taylor Rogers, outfielder Brent Rooker, and cash considerations instead.Copyright © 2022 Score Media Ventures Inc.
